Today marks the start of National Youth Week (NYW), 10-19 April, the largest celebration of Australia’s young people aged 12-25.
Barnardos Australia will be involved with a number of expos being run in the ACT during the week, including the ACT Youth Week Expo, the official launch of the ACT National Youth Week.
The expo features young performers, stallholders from the ACT youth and community sector and a range of free and fun activities. The Barnardos Gateway stall will promote our work with young people and provide information on how to access the service.
The Child, Youth and Family Gateway is a partnership between Barnardos Australia, Belconnen Community Services, Woden Community Service and the YWCA. These four agencies operate the Gateway, which is an entry point for Child, Youth and Family services in the Canberra region for vulnerable children, young people and their families.
The Child, Youth and Family Services programs are for vulnerable families with children under the age of 18 years and for youth to 25 years. This service is an ACT Government initiative to support and strengthen families and reduce their involvement with the tertiary services of Child Protection and Youth Justice Services.
For the past two years Barnardos has been the designated lead agency in the consortium.
