The brand new exterior of the Barnardos carers holiday house after the House Rules teams worked their make-over magic.
The “House Rules” for this challenge were to make a fun family beach house that was child-friendly and the teams more than delivered for us!
The judges said the teams had risen to a new level and created a beautiful holiday home for families who are really deserving.
Architect Joe Snell described the house as one of the best transformations that has ever been seen on House Rules.
“I’ve always believed that design can make people’s lives better and I think you have done just that for these Barnardos families. Inspiring stuff,” he said during the judging to determine which teams went through to the Grand Final.
Wendy Moore (editor of Home Beautiful magazine) was impressed with Carole and Russell’s living room and their skill in bringing positive and vibrant colours together to create a calm and welcoming living space.
Carole admitted it was a very emotional challenge.
“I found the Barnardos house renovation really emotional. Anything to do with children not being treated fairly or not being happy was always going to hurt me. But I used the reason for what we were doing to drive me to make it so beautiful and bright and happy and it all came out in our design,” she said.
On seeing the amazing children’s space that Candy and Ryan created for the new games room, Joe said: “When you think about what this house is and what it will do for the families that come here, this room is perfect. I reckon it's one of the best rooms we’ve ever seen on House Rules. It just makes me feel really happy.”
The judges also loved the main kids bedroom created by Adam and Lisa and so did Barnardos’ foster carer Sharon’s three young daughters as they climbed to the top bunks and declared “We want to move in!”
Wendy described the house renovation as a precious gift that the teams have made really special – and we agree!
Thank you teams and thank you House Rules from everyone at Barnardos Australia.
